our story
Fall Semester 2016 | UT Austin
How do two people in completely different majors and friend groups meet in a college of 50,000 people?
It’s simple! Discrete mathematics and the band Vampire Weekend.
As unlikely as it sounds, these two things brought Han and Patrick together and sparked the story of how they fell in love.
As an electrical engineering major, Patrick had to take many (confusing) math classes like discrete mathematics. Forced to take this class in the summer of sophomore year, Patrick started a conversation on the second day of class with a new friend who invited them to join Healing with Harmonies, a student org at UT whose goal is to bring joy to the elderly through music. It was in this organization that Han and Patrick were destined to meet!
Almost immediately after making eye contact at the org's first mixer of the year, Han and Patrick screamed in excitement over their shared love for the band Vampire Weekend and the classic hit A-Punk. Vigorous air guitaring ensued. So began their passion for singing and playing music together, something they look forward to sharing with everyone at the wedding!
From taking long walks home together to rehearsing songs in the cramped practice rooms of UT’s music buildings, Han and Patrick quickly developed a deep friendship turning into something more.
It didn't take long before Han realized she was in love! So, mustering all the courage she could, she asked Patrick out on a date (Spoiler: Patrick said yes). After board games, pizza, and hours of talking in the car, Han and Patrick were official, and the rest is history!
In the 7.5 years since, we’ve faced many challenges including long distance, COVID, and Minnesota winters. But with our friends, family, and anxious Siamese cat Toast, we are very proud of the life we have built together!
We're so excited to celebrate with you this November! See you soon!
Love,
Han and Patrick :)
